This August the California Department of Food and Agriculture (CDFA) awarded Chico Flax a three- year Healthy Soils Incentives Grant to help kick-off and facilitate our commitment to regenerative agriculture.
To begin implementing the grant Chico Flax will do a fall planting of native California plants in a hedgerow surrounding their fields. The 8-foot wide span will cover 1600 linear feet which will include Red Bud, Blue Elderberry, Coffeeberry, California Buckwheat, Salvia Bees’ Bliss, as well as other native California plants. This mixed hedgerow will provide insects, birds, and animals a habitat that is sustainable as well as producing year-round flowers and a source for natural dyes.
This is where you come in!
We are hosting four hands-on weekends for you to join us to learn what we are about, why hedgerows are so great, and to help plant the hedgerow.
We will have tools, drinks, snacks, and lots of information. You should wear comfortable work clothes; have lots of questions, and willing hands. Look forward to seeing you soon.
